Batman - Return to the Batcave
Batman - Return to the Batcave Review

While I did watch the Batman show as a kid (in reruns, not prime time)it wasn't my favorite. I've come to appreciate it more as I've grown older and actually get the jokes. Then I was just watching as a child, strictly for the plot.
The casting of the young Burt and Adam was perfect. I believed that this was the way it could have happened. The tone is the same as in the series.
I like to believe that Adam West and Burt Ward, despite the tabloid fodder they were from time to time, are nice people, enjoyed doing the show, and look back fondly on it.
It's a lot of fun. It zips along with no slow spots. I would not recommend it to someone who didn't watch and like the old series (or the movie). Only a person who has enjoyed that could appreciate and enjoy this.
Seeing Lyle Waggoner's screen test was really interesting and gave me an idea of how it could have been if other choices had been made. Waggoner's voice over narration in places is a delight and yet another in joke.
The movie is not an apology for the show but a celebration of it. Think about this: Could this show be made today? We're far too cynical to relax this much. Before our collective loss of innocence we could believe that good guys were good and bad guys were bad. No longer, sadly.
Now, Casablanca it ain't, but if you can relax enough to enjoy a little silliness then buy or at least rent Return To The Batcave.
